The Problem Solution Context

You want to use design thinking, innovative ways of doing business? You want to use Six Sigma. Which consultants to bring in? How will you answer the question?

It depends on what the situation is. You can have three kinds of contexts depending on your knowledge of the problem and solution.

  1. Problem: Known / Solution: Known (Known Knowns)
  2. Problem: Known / Solution: Unknown (Known Unknowns)
  3. Problem: Unknown / Solution: Unknown (Unknowns Unknowns)

Understanding the situation is key to the kind of process you would use to solve it.
