Australia needs to change its skilled migration approach.
Having seen this from 2005 when I have arrived in Australia I can say two things. One, this system as a whole has a lot of good logic and approach compared to say the US and two, the actual details are outdated and we need to move on and it has been outdated for a decade atleast.
From the AFR:
‘Classification of occupations has not kept pace with job transformation,’’ they wrote in a submission to the federal government’s review of the immigration system.
They slammed the current system as providing ‘‘only a cursory consideration of the objective to increase human capital’’ that focused on job shortages rather than growth, stymying economic development.
‘‘While there is currently a dire need for accounting and finance professionals, their contribution is so much greater than filling skills gaps,’’ it said.
‘‘Facilitating investment, jobs creation and enabling businesses to not just survive, but to thrive’’ were all roles played by accountants beyond the traditional practices, it continued.
