Strategy Is Non-Linear

When I discuss strategy it is not always easy to present the idea. An analogy is always useful. Here is a good one by Nino Lancette in Medium.

By definition, strategy is non-linear. Plans are linear, strategy is not. Let’s take travel as an example. For your daily commute to work, you need some planning to arrive on time (e.g. leaving early enough to avoid traffic). Going on a world tour by bicycle in 40 days requires a strategy, a number of plans which executed together will get you from home, through ravines, storms, flat tires, stolen wheels and back home again in time to celebrate the feat. A bike trip around the world will require you to design methods for dealing with obstacles, dangerous terrains and unpredictable weather. These methods will be much less straight-forward thann‘leaving early to avoid rush-hour’.

Up next Is the Age of Efficiency Over? The new year always brings in new thoughts and new plans for me. What about you? What are you thinking about changing in this new year? And, Happy The 5 Questions Every Company Should Ask Itself IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO ASK THE RIGHT QUESTION, YOU DISCOVER NOTHING. — W.
