It bears repeating: the appropriate technology movement died because it was led by well-intentioned tinkerers instead of hard-nosed entrepreneurs designing for the market.
This is such an important point. Good intentions are not enough. What we need is customer focussed in terms of need based, market focussed in terms of costs, channels and competitors and outcome focussed in terms of what works. If our innovation is not aiming to these things then we cannot create the change we want to see.
